Medical Appointments

Unite are disappointed to yet again be receiving reports that some managers are disregarding the agreed approach on medical appointments. This approach has been agreed locally by Capita HR and Unite, and all staff are reminded to follow this when requesting or authorising leave for a medical appointment.

Recent reports have indicated that some managers have imposed time limits on leave granted for medical appointments (e.g. if arrive or leave work more than 1 hour after your start or finish time, you will have to make all this time back up). Such arrangements are in breach of the agreed approach and managers do not have the discretion to impose such time limits on leave for medical appointments.

Unite have requested that Capita HR reissue the agreed local wording to line managers again.

If you are a Unite member and need representation in a meeting (for instance an absence / attendance improvement, performance improvement or disciplinary meeting) please contact us at .box Amicus Glasgow as soon as you can after you receive your invitation to attend.

We will then be able to arrange a suitable Rep or, if necessary, have the meeting postponed until a Rep is available to accompany you. If you contact us when you get the letter it is more likely that a Rep will be available at the original meeting time and date.
